Digital Behaviour - A Perspective on Human Insights with Holmusk
Dr Yau Teng Yan, Chief Medical Officer of Holmusk, joined an entrepreneurship talk at Republic Polytechnic to share about his role in creating a digital health company. The presentation—to around 100 students—was part of an event held by the Business Incubation Centre, as a platform to inspire young, future thought leaders and entrepreneurs.
Dr Yau shared his entrepreneurial journey with the students —how his desire to change the future of healthcare led to him leaving his profession as a clinical doctor, to start Holmusk. He recounted the initial process of starting Holmusk together with the CEO Nawal Roy, and how the start-up grew from 3 people meeting at a café to a diverse team of around 40 passionate individuals with an office located at One-North. He emphasised that the spirit of entrepreneurship does not simply encompass lucrative ideas, but also filling a niche need, or for him, first and foremost seeking a way to help people. The session ended off with a short question and answer session, where Dr Yau advised that open communication and the ability to adapt are key for diverse groups within the company to work together.
“Starting a business is never easy, but the satisfaction you get from improving lives makes the whole journey worthwhile” – Dr Yau
